Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove" for the correct procedure.
Remove the exhaust cooler (NRS). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Cooler (NRS) - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Tightening sequence

Typical example
Loosen bolts (7) and nuts (2) in reverse numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 1.
Remove nuts (2) and bolts (7).
Remove exhaust manifold (3) and heat shield (6) from the cylinder head .
Remove gasket (5) from studs (1).
If necessary, remove studs (1) from the cylinder head. Note position of studs for installation purposes.
If necessary, remove studs (4) from the exhaust manifold.Installation Procedure

Tightening sequence.

Ensure that the gasket surfaces of the cylinder head and the exhaust manifold are clean and free from damage.
If necessary, install studs (1) to the cylinder head in the correct positions. Tighten the studs to a torque of 25 N m (221 lb in)
Position a new gasket (5) onto studs (1). Ensure that the gasket is correctly orientated.
Position exhaust manifold (3) onto the cylinder head.
Position heat shield (6) onto exhaust manifold (3) Install bolt (7) hand tight.
Install remaining bolts (7) and nuts (2) hand tight.
Tighten nuts (2) and bolts (7) to a torque of 25 N m (221 lb in). Tighten the bolts and nuts in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 3.
If necessary, install studs (4) to the exhaust manifold. Tighten the studs to a torque of 25 N m (221 lb in).End By:
Install the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Install" for the correct procedure.
Install the exhaust cooler (NRS). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Cooler (NRS) - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
