Sudden movement of the machine or release of air or oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, do the procedure which follows before servicing the air system or brakes.
1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel.2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all personnel either away from the machine or in view of the operator.3. Activate the secondary brake and parking brake. Lower the bucket to the ground. Put wood blocks in front of and behind the wheels. Stop the engine.4. Continuously push on the brake pedal until there is no more brake air pressure. When the pressure has been removed from the air circuit, there will be no pressure in the hydraulic circuit.5. Be sure all air pressure is released before any fitting, hose or component is loosened, tightened, removed or adjusted. Before any operational checks are made, open the drain valve to release any water in the air reservoir. Water lowers the capacity in the reservoir and can cause the air compressor to run constantly. Close the drain valve. It may be necessary to apply air pressure to the brake chamber to pneumatically release the tension on the brakes and pin (1). Refer to "Remove & Install Parking Brake Chamber" in this module.6. Remove the cotter pin and pin (1).7. Mark the position of lever (2) on the shaft of cam (3).8. Loosen bolt (4), and remove lever (2). 9. Remove four bolts (5) and the washers. Remove guard assembly (6). 10. Remove bolt (8) and the washer from the center of yoke assembly (9).11. Remove bolt (7) and the washer from drum (10). 12. Fasten tool (A) to the drum at the location of bolt (7) as shown. 13. Fasten tool (B) to the loader frame and the yoke assembly and drum (11) as shown. Remove the yoke assembly and drum (11) from the machine. The weight of the unit is 39 kg (85 lb). 14. Remove four bolts (12) and the washers. Remove parking brake group (13) from the brake flange yoke. The following steps are for the installation of the parking brake.15. Put parking brake group (13) in position on the brake flange yoke. Install the four washers and bolts (12) which hold it in position.16. Lubricate the splined shaft in the carrier bearing with 5P0960 Multipurpose Grease.17. Fasten tool (B) to the loader frame of the machine and the yoke assembly and drum (11). Put the yoke assembly and drum (11) in position over the splined shaft in the carrier bearing and parking brake (13). Reinstall the washer and bolt (7).18. Reinstall the washer and bolt (8) in the center of yoke assembly (9). Tighten the bolt to a torque of 135 15 N m (100 11 lb ft).19. Reinstall guard assembly
