Information:
When an Avoidance Surface is employed to warn of entry into a hazardous area, ensure that the Surface is sized to include a sufficient safety perimeter around the area of risk. Perimeter size should consider machine size and operating speeds.
Avoidance Surfaces are surfaces that the operator must avoid by ensuring that the machine stays either above the surface or else below the surface. All Avoidance Surfaces that are enabled are displayed with a parallel infill on the Plan window. The Avoidance Surface can be set as "Above" or "Below" to trigger the Avoidance Zone alarm.Above - Monitored points around the machine pass above the Avoidance Surface.Below - Monitored points around the machine pass below the Avoidance Surface.

(3) Machine is above an Avoidance Surface An Avoidance Surface file contains a single surface. Avoidance Surfaces are only used if the file is either the "Prime" or the "Active" file on the machine.Avoidance Surface *.cat files are generated in Cat MineStar System. Generally, the rules that apply to generation of the elevation design *.cat file also apply to generation of the Avoidance Surface file. For example, Avoidance Surface *.cat files can both contain offsets and also can allow the operator to modify the offset.Configure Avoidance Surface Warning
The same settings for Avoidance Zones apply to Avoidance Surfaces. Avoidance Configuration feature in the MCU - Enables both the Avoidance Zone and the Avoidance Surface functions for v3.2 and earlier.File Select - Select the "Avoidance Surface" checkbox in the MCU to allow operators to select Avoidance Surface files in the "Select Data Files" dialog.Note: A 3-D machine buffer must be set up around the machine. If the machine buffer has already been set up for Avoidance Zones, then redefining the buffer for Avoidance Surfaces is not necessary.Reference: For an explanation of the machine buffer and the detection points that define the buffer, refer to Systems Operation, KENR8277, "Avoidance Zone".Machine Buffer v3.2 and earlier
Use the MCU to define the 3-D machine buffer around the machine for v3.2 and earlier machines.Note: All distances are in meters from the machine origin.Avoidance Buffer v4.0 and later
Use the MCU to define the 3-D machine buffer around the machine for v4.0 and later machines.Note: All distances are in meters from the machine origin.

(4) The "Avoidance Surface High" value defines an offset applied above the origin.
(5) The "Avoidance Surface Low" values defines an offset applied below the origin. Colors on an Avoidance Zone Surface Plan
The color is used for both the outline and the cross hatch infill of the Avoidance Surface. The colors in the Plan view and in the Profile view match. The first four surfaces have default colors. The default colors are (in order) orange, peach, purple, and dark cyan.Note: Avoidance Zones can be obscured by as-built surface information. To avoid this situation, ensure that suitable colors are used for Avoidance
