Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Start the machine. Raise the boom. Extend the stick all the way. Lower the stick to the ground. The stick cylinders are now horizontal. Shut off the engine.

Fasten two lifting slings to left hand stick cylinder (5). Fasten a hoist to the lifting slings. Apply slight lifting tension on the left hand stick cylinder.
Disconnect hose assembly (1). Disconnect hose assembly (2).
Remove three bolts (3) and the washers. Remove retainer plate (4), the spacer and the shims. Remove three bolts (6) and the washers. Remove retainer plate (7), the spacer and the shims.

Start the machine. Retract the rod of left hand stick cylinder (5). Shut off the engine.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns. To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.
Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this manual.
Oil will drain from hose assembly (8) and from hose assembly (9) when the hose assemblies are disconnected. Collect the drain oil in a pan. Disconnect hose assembly (8). Disconnect hose assembly (9). Install a plug in the end of the hose assemblies. Plugs prevent oil loss. Plugs prevent contaminating the hydraulic system.
Remove left hand stick cylinder (5) from the machine. The weight of the left hand stick cylinder is 255 kg (560 lb).
