Introduction
This instruction gives the procedure for replacing the Chevron packing in an hydraulic cylinder with a U-cup seal and spacer(s). Use the Chevron packing "part number"when ordering the U-cup seal and spacer(s).
Illustration 1. Hydraulic cylinder with chevron packing.
(A) Chevron packing. (B) Head. (C) Retainer.
Illustration 2. Hydraulic cylinder with the U-cup seal and spacer(s).
(A) Spacer(s). (B) U-cup seal. (C) Head. (D) Retainer.1. Remove the retainer and old Chevron packing. Keep the retainer for later use. Properly dispose of Chevron packing, see Illustration 1.2. Place the new U-cup seal between the head and rod, see illustration 2.3. Place the spacer(s) behind the U-cup seal.4. Install the retainer that was removed in step 1. There is not a need to put pressure on the seal/spacer(s) to install the new seal assembly. There needs to be a void between the U-cup seal and the head for sealing purposes.
