This action will let the monitoring system check the fluid levels of the engine oil, the coolant, and the hydraulic oil. If the fluids are below a specified level, only the respective indicator lights will be ON. The level check lights will remain ON until the engine key is turned off.
If the engine key is not maintained in the ON position for more than two seconds and the engine is started immediately, the system does not check the fluid levels. In this case, the fluid level indicator lights will flash a few times before turning OFF.
The service technician should be aware of these conditions:
1. The prestart fluid level monitoring system does not monitor levels after the engine is started. Therefore the system is not intended to detect leaks.2. The prestart fluid level monitoring system only works at initial startup. In order to activate the system for a restart, there must be at least five minutes between engine stop and restart. This applies specifically to the engine oil level check. While the engine is running, oil is pumped out of the crankcase and into the engine. After the engine is stopped, it takes several minutes for the oil to drain out of the engine and back into the crankcase. If an engine is restarted before time is allowed for the oil to drain back to the crankcase, the low engine level warning would be in error. It is recommended to allow at least five minutes between stopping and restarting the engine if a fluid level check is desired.3. The system monitors the Engine Oil Pressure continuously while the engine is running. Any engine oil pressure warnings should be taken seriously and action taken as specified in the machines Operation and Maintenance Manual.Please review the Engine Starting subsection of the Operating Section of your machine's Operation and Maintenance Manual and provide the above instructions for all manuals.
