3054 ENGINES IN ALL APPLICATIONSProblem:
Two additional holes have been added to the 6I-0585 Cylinder Head Gasket. The additional holes provide clearance for two dowels that position the cylinder head on the cylinder block. Some earlier 6I-0585 Cylinder Head Gaskets (without the two additional dowel holes) may be in gasket kits or dealer inventory. An earlier 6I-0585 Cylinder Head Gasket (without the two additional dowel holes) can NOT be used in a 3054 engine with the two locating dowels unless the gasket is modified. Solution:
If you must install an earlier 6I-0585 Cylinder Head Gasket (without the two dowel holes) on a 3054 engine with the locating dowels, punch two holes (A) in the gasket as shown in the illustration.
