The 24M Series Motor Graders are equipped with a Transmission/Chassis ECM that will enable full electronic control of the clutch valves of the transmission. A software enabled "Autoshift" function is standard on the 24M Series Motor Graders. The "Autoshift" function will enable the ECM to control the operation of the transmission. The electronic control of the transmission by the Transmission/Chassis ECM allows the technician to program specific operating gear ranges to be configured using the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) service tool. The ECM monitors the status of other machine systems and the operation of the transmission at all times.In addition to controlling the transmission, the Transmission/Chassis ECM controls the following machine systems:
The engine cranking system (based on machine conditions and based on input from the starter keyswitch).
The secondary steering system (based on machine conditions and communication with the Implement ECM).
The operation of the parking brake (based on machine conditions and the parking brake selector switch).
The operation of the air conditioning system (based on the air conditioning switch input).
Differential lock function (based on selector switch input).
The back-up alarm operation (based on machine conditions).

Transmission/Chassis ECM located on the right side of the transmission During machine operation, the Transmission/Chassis ECM receives input data from various components in the power train system. The ECM makes decisions based upon the state of these inputs and the operating parameters that are stored in the ECM memory. Input devices of the Transmission/Chassis ECM include the following:
Components in the left joystick
Other control modules on the machine via the Cat Data Link and the SAE J1939 Data Link
Various "hard wired" switches that include operator control switches and pressure switches of the machine system
Various "hard wired" sensors of the machine system that include position sensors, pressure sensors, and temperature sensors
The Cat Electronic Technician service tool through the service tool connectorThe Transmission/Chassis ECM will activate outputs to energize or de-energize solenoids and relays to control the transmission and other machine functions for the power train control system.
