Removal Procedure
Start By:
Purge the air pressure from the air tanks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Tanks (Brake) - Purge".
Air lines to and from the air dryer must be at atmospheric pressure. Release the air pressure from the air system completely before performing maintenance.
Note: The air dryer is located on the outside of the frame assembly and behind the right front suspension cylinder.

Illustration 2 g00547274Note: Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will prevent dirt from entering the internal components.
Disconnect tube assembly (1) from the air brake elbow.
Remove the nut and harness assembly (6) from the end cover assembly.
Disconnect hose assembly (5) from air dryer (2). Note: Do not remove clamps (4) during the removal procedure.
Remove four bolts (3), and air dryer (2) from the frame assembly.
Refer to Air Dryer for Vehicle Air Systems, SENR7474, "Disassembly and Assembly" for the correct disassembly and assembly procedure. Installation Procedure
Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install air dryer (2) to the frame assembly. Install bolts (3) in order to secure the air dryer.

Install harness assembly (6) and the nut to the end cover assembly. Tighten the nut to a torque of 2.8 0.6 N m (25 5.3 lb in).
Connect hose assembly (5) to air dryer (2).
Connect tube (1) to the air brake elbow.
