Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the valve mechanism cover base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover Base - Remove and Install".
Remove the electronic unit injectors. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electronic Unit Injector - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities and Recommendations".

Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and (6).
Disconnect harness assemblies (3) and (5) (not shown).
Remove oil level gauge tube (2).
Remove the bracket assembly and fuel filter base (4).

Remove bolts (7).
Disconnect harness assembly (8).

Disconnect hose assemblies (11), (12), (13), and (16).
Disconnect tube assembly (15).
Remove the cover for water regulator housing (14).
Attach a suitable lifting device to cylinder head (10). The weight of cylinder head (10) is approximately 227 kg (500 lb). Remove bolts (9).
Remove cylinder head (10).
