Remove the front wheel, the bearing, and the Duo-Cone seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Wheel, Bearing and Duo-Cone Seal - Remove".

Remove bolts (1). Use two people to remove plate (2). The weight of plate (2) is approximately 27 kg (59 lb).

Attach a suitable lifting device to steering arm (4). Remove bolts (3) and lower steering arm (4) away from the spindle.

To prevent personal injury, do not loosen the bolts more than 1/2 turn at a time in any other pattern than a circular pattern. Any other method may cause the bolts to break and result in personal injury.
Attach a suitable lifting device to the spindle. The weight of the spindle and Tooling (A) is approximately 272 kg (600 lb). Loosen bolts (6) by one half of a revolution before proceeding to the next bolt. Loosen bolts (6) in a circular pattern. Remove bolts (6), plate (5), and the shims.

Use Tooling (A) in order to pull the spindle away from the taper on the front suspension cylinder. Lower the spindle away from the front suspension cylinder.
