Position the spindle below the front suspension cylinder. The weight of the spindle is approximately 179 kg (395 lb). Be sure that the taper of the front suspension cylinder is free of dirt, burrs and foreign material.
Apply Tooling (C) to the taper of front suspension cylinder. Install the spindle to the front suspension cylinder.

The following procedure is used to determine the required amount of shims.
Install plate (5), two bolts (6), and the hard washers so that bolts (6) are opposite of each other, as shown. Tighten bolts (6) evenly to a torque of 170 20 N m (125 15 lb ft). Turn each bolt (6) no more than half of a turn at a time.
Use Tooling (B) in order to measure the distance between plate (22) and the front suspension cylinder.
Subtract 3.00 0.03 mm (0.118 0.001 inch) from the measurement that was determined in Step 3.b. The thickness of shims must be equal to this total dimension. Note: The thickness of the shims must not be less than 0.63 mm (0.025 inch).

Install the required thickness of shims that were determined in Step 3.c to the spindle. Install plate (5), and bolts (6) to the spindle. Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 1085 35 N m (800 26 lb ft). Tighten bolts (6) in a circular pattern. Turn each bolt (6) no more than half of a turn at a time. Note: A clearance of 0.0 - 0.13 mm (0.00 - 0.005 inch) should exist between the shims and plate (5) after installation.

Attach a suitable lifting device to steering arm (4). Position steering arm (4) to the spindle. Install bolts (3).

Use two people to install plate (2). Install bolts (1). The weight of plate (2) is approximately 27 kg (59 lb). End By:
Install the front wheel, the bearing, and the Duo-Cone seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Wheel, Bearing and Duo-Cone Seal - Install".
