Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the transmission oil cooler. Refer toDisassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Oil Cooler - Remove". The information is in this manual.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the engine oil from the engine crankcase into a suitable container. The capacity of the engine crankcase is 24 L (25.5 qt).

Remove four bolts (1) that secure the engine oil cooler to oil filter base (2) .

Remove four bolts (3) from engine oil cooler (4). Remove engine oil cooler (4) and two gaskets from the engine.

Remove four bolts and elbow (5) from engine oil cooler (4). Remove bolt (8) and elbow (7) from engine oil cooler (4). Remove O-ring seals (6) from elbows (5) and (7) .

Use dowel rod (9) to clean engine oil cooler (4). The diameter of dowel rod (9) is 3.96 mm (.156 inch).Installation Procedure
Inspect the O-ring seals and the gaskets that were removed from the assembly for wear or damage. If the O-ring seals and the gaskets are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Install O-ring seals (6) in elbows (5) and (7). Install elbows (5) and (7) on engine oil cooler (4) .

Install the gaskets on engine oil cooler (4). Install engine oil cooler (4) and bolts (3) to the engine.

Position the engine oil cooler to oil filter base (2). Install four bolts (1) that secure the engine oil cooler to oil filter base (2) .End By: Install the transmission oil cooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Oil Cooler - Install". The information is in this manual.
