Remove the terminal box. Refer to the "Terminal Box - Remove and Install" section for information in order to remove the terminal box.
Remove the bolts that assemble the fan guard sections together.
The engine end play must be recorded.
Illustration 1 g02719238
Typical example of a C175
(1) 279-3473 installed
For C175 engines, remove the access cover in order to mount the 279-3473 Barring and Mounting Gp tool (1).
Illustration 2 g02719240
Typical example of a 3500 engine
(2) Access panel to be removed to allow 9S-9082 Engine Turning Tool installation.
For 3500 engines, remove the access panel (2). Install the 9S-9082 Engine Turning Tool. Refer to Illustration 2.
Do not lift the generator any more than is necessary in order to slide the generator on the rail. The generator can be lifted higher after the rotor pilot shaft is clear from the engine flywheel. Note: The generators can weigh from 2041 kg (4500 lb) to 4536 kg (10000 lb).
Illustration 3 g01979734
Attach a suitable lifting device (5) to the generator. The point of attachment varies with the size of the generator.
Illustration 4 g01979774
(6) Mounting Bolts
(7) Shims
Remove the bolts (6) which fasten the generator to the base. Keep the shims (7). The shims will be used for installation.
Illustration 5 g02719317
(10) Drip shield
(11) Screen
Remove the drip shield (10) and screen (11).
Illustration 6 g02719339
(12) Generator close coupling adapter mounting bolts (Most of the bolts are not seen in this illustration.)
(13) Generator close coupling adapter
Remove the bolts (12) which fasten the close coupling adapter (13) to the engine flywheel housing. Refer to Illustration 6. Note: There are two different couplings that are used. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, Disassembly and Assembly, KENR8990, "Coupling - Remove" for more coupling information. The rubber that is in the shear coupling elements will separate during the disassembly. The rubber that is in the compression coupling will need to be disassembled from the flywheel.

(20) Close coupling adapter
(21) Rubber in compression coupling
(22) Rubber in compression coupling mounting bolts
Slide the generator away from engine before lifting the generator. Remove the generator. Place the generator on solid blocking material which will not allow the generator to roll.
Illustration 9 g03441517
Typical example of a 3000 frame drive hub
(25) Generator drive hub
(26) Close coupling adapter
(27) Generator drive hub mounting bolts
If necessary, remove the hub (25) that is on the two bearing generator. Note: The process to remove the hub (25) may vary, depending on the generator. Also, the process in order to install the hub may vary as well.
