Removal Procedure
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Remove bolt (1) and bolt (6) from Electronic Control Module (ECM) for harness assembly (3) and harness assembly (4).
Cut cable straps (7) and cable straps (8) from the harness assemblies.
Loosen allen head bolt (2) and disconnect harness assembly (3) from the assembly of ECM (9).
Loosen allen head bolt (5) and disconnect harness assembly (4) from the assembly of the ECM (9).
Position both harness assembly (3) and harness assembly (4) away from ECM (9).

Loosen bolts (11) from ECM (9). Ensure that ground connection (10) is not damaged as the bolt is loosened.
Remove ECM (9) from the cylinder block.

If necessary, follow Step 4.a through Step 4.b in order to disassemble ECM (9).
Remove bolts (11) and remove bracket (15) and bracket (16). Note the position of washer (17) (not shown) between the bolt and ground connection (10).
Remove isolation mounts (12), mounts (14), and limit sleeves (13).

If necessary, remove spacers (18) from cylinder block (19). Installation Procedure
If a replacement Electronic Control Module (ECM) is installed, the replacement ECM must be programmed with the correct information. Refer to Troubleshooting Guide, "Replacing the ECM" and refer to Troubleshooting Guide, "Flash Programming" for the correct procedure.
Ensure that the ECM is clean and free from damage. If necessary, replace the ECM.

If necessary, install spacers (18) to cylinder block (19). Tighten the spacers to a torque of 44 N m (32 lb ft).
If necessary, follow Step 4.a through Step 4.c in order to assemble ECM (9).
Install isolation mounts (12), mounts (14), and limit sleeves (13) to ECM (9).
Position bracket (15) and bracket (16) onto the ECM (9). Ensure that the brackets are correctly orientated.
Install bolts (11). Ensure that washer (17) (not shown) is between the bolt and ground connection (10).

Install ECM (9) to the cylinder block.
Hand tighten bolts (11) for ECM (9).
Tighten bolts (11) to a torque of 22 N m (195 lb in). Ensure that ground connection (10) is not damaged as the bolt is tightened.

Position both harness assembly (3) and harness assembly (4) onto ECM (9).
Connect harness assembly (3) to ECM (9). Loosely tighten allen head bolt (2) and bolt (1). Note: Care must be taken in order to avoid damage to the connector pins during installation of the harness.
Tighten allen head bolt (2) to a torque of 6 N m (53 lb in). Tighten bolt (1) to a torque of 6.5 N m (58 lb in).
Tighten allen head bolt (5) to a torque of 6 N m (53 lb in). Tighten bolt (6) to a torque of 6.5 N m (58 lb in).
Install new cable straps (7) and new cable straps (8) to the harness assemblies. Note: Ensure that the cable straps meet the Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) specifications
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
