Brake linkage (1) Link (2) Shaft (3) Piston (4) Bellcrank (5) Spring (6) Pawl (7) Pin (8) Shaft (9) Strut (10) Pin (11) Strut (12) Shaft (13) Lever (14) Lever (15) PinThe brakes have brake bands on the steering clutch drums in order to stop the movement of the machine. The brakes also assist the steering clutches in turning of the machine. The brakes have hydraulic mechanisms for easier operation. The brakes can be held in the ON position by brake pawl (6) on the brake linkage. The brakes are engaged by the same brake pedal. The brakes are engaged individually by the steering clutch hydraulic control valve. Both brakes operate the same way. When the brake pedal is pushed toward the front of the machine, the mechanical linkage moves piston (3) in the hydraulic control mechanism. Piston (3) contacts the roller on bellcrank (4). The bellcrank turns on shaft (2) and the bellcrank moves link (1) toward the top. The link moves pin (10) toward the top and the link moves pins (7) and (15) away from each other. Levers (13) and (14) then turn shafts (8) and (12). Levers (13) and (14) move struts (9) and (11) toward each other. The movement of the struts pushes the ends of the brake band together. The brake band contacts the steering clutch drum. The machine slows down or the machine stops. When the brake pedal is released, spring (5) and the springs inside the hydraulic control mechanism move the mechanical linkage and the brake pedal. The struts move apart. The brake band is not in contact with the steering clutch drum. The brakes are in the OFF position. The brakes can be held in the ON position. Push the brake pedal toward the front of the machine. While the brake is depressed, push the parking brake lever forward. While the brake is depressed, push the parking brake lever downward. The parking brake lever is at the right side of the seat. The brake lever is connected mechanically by a linkage. The movement of the lever engages the teeth of brake pawl (6) with the teeth of the ratchet. The brakes are held in the ON position by the link. The links contact bellcrank (4) .This operation will release the brakes: Push on the brake pedal. Pull the parking brake lever upward and pull the parking brake lever backward. An oil line sends pressure oil to the brake bands. The oil lubricates the brake bands. The oil cools the brake bands.
