Component Codes 3101SUBJECT: Torque Converter Bolts May Have Been Omitted
PROBLEM:
The 12 6V-5684 bolts that clamp the impeller, the impeller hub, and the impeller clutch adapter together are suspected to have been omitted during assembly.
An indicator of the problem could be higher than normal levels of copper or aluminum in the oil samples. Low power (reduced rimpull) could also be an indicator of missing bolts. These symptoms could occur within the first 2,000 hours of operation.
SOLUTION:
If oil samples show higher than normal levels of copper or aluminum, or if the machine is demonstrating low power (low rimpull), the torque converter should be disassembled and inspected to determine if these bolts are missing.
If you are working on the torque converter for some other reason, it is advisable to inspect for the presence of these bolts at that time.
