When the rear drive shaft is installed, it must be installed in phase with the rear axle assembly yoke. The rear drive shaft must be installed in phase with the center and front drive shafts. Serious component damage could occur. Be certain that all the joint groups, all the yokes, and all the lubricating fittings are aligned.

Use two people to install the rear drive shaft. The weight of the rear drive shaft is approximately 34 kg (75 lb).
Clean the threads of bolts (4) with Tooling (A). Apply Tooling (B) to the threads. Install four bolts (4). Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 430 60 N m (320 45 lb ft).
Install drive shaft guard (3) .

Apply Tooling (A) to the threads. Install four bolts (2) that hold rear drive shaft (1) to the yoke on the output transfer gear yoke. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft).
Lubricate the rear drive shaft. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Drive Shaft Universal Joints, Splines and Bearings - Inspect/Lubricate" for the correct procedure.End By: Install the center drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install".
