Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the right side engine cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Cover - Remove and Install".
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is approximately 25.5 L (6.7 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the machine that is being serviced.

Loosen hose clamp (1) and disconnect hose (2). Remove bolts (3). Remove water temperature regulator assembly (4) .

Remove water temperature regulator (5) from housing (6). Remove O-ring seal (7) .Installation Procedure

Note: Check the O-ring seal for wear or for damage. If necessary, replace the O-ring seal.
Install O-ring seal (7). Install water temperature regulator (5) into housing (6) .

Install water temperature regulator assembly (4). Install bolts (3). Connect hose (2) and tighten hose clamp (1) .
Fill the cooling system with coolant. The capacity of the cooling system is approximately 25.5 L (6.7 US gal).
