1. Drain the coolant from the radiator.2. Loosen hose clamp (1) and remove the hose. Remove bolts (2) and remove the housing. 3. Remove water temperature regulator (3). Test the water temperature regulator for correct operation. See, Test Procedure For Thermostat, in Testing And Adjusting.4. Be sure the contact surfaces for gasket (4) are clean.
If the water temperature regulator is installed wrong, it will cause the engine to overheat.
The following steps are for the installation of the water temperature regulator.5. Put gasket (4) and water temperature regulator (3) in position in the head with the spring down.6. Install the housing and bolts (2).7. Install the hose and tighten hose clamp (1).8. Fill cooling system.
