The test for the refrigerant compressor that is referenced above should be performed in order to verify that the refrigerant compressor has failed. Before you replace the air conditioning compressor, perform the following checks on the air conditioning system.
Check the flow of air through the condenser and through the evaporators.
Check the fresh air filters and check the recirculation air filter.
Check that the input voltage to the compressor is within the specifications. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating R-134a for All Caterpillar Products", "Refrigerant Compressor - Test".
Check that the resistance to the compressor coil is within the specifications. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating R-134a for All Caterpillar Products", "Refrigerant Compressor - Test".
Check that the alignment of the belt is correct and that the belt is correctly tensioned.
Check that the compressor shaft rotates without binding.
Check that the refrigerant charge for the air conditioning system is within the specifications. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating R-134a for All Caterpillar Products", "Refrigerant Compressor - Test".
Check the pressure at the suction port of the air conditioning compressor for low pressure. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating R-134a for All Caterpillar Products", "Performance Checks for the Air Conditioning System".
Check the pressure at the discharge port of the air conditioning compressor for high pressure. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, SENR5664, "Air Conditioning and Heating R-134a for All Caterpillar Products", "Performance Checks for the Air Conditioning System".The following conditions can cause the air conditioning compressor to fail.Low refrigerant charge
