(1) Torque for one bolt in each collet assembly ... 870 110 N m (640 80 lb ft)(2) Torque for nut ... 500 65 N m (370 48 lb ft) For collet removal, use three 9DE3240 forcing bolts. For steering cylinder removal and installation procedures, refer to R1300 L.H.D. Vehicle Systems Disassembly & Assembly, Form No. RENR4612 (9EL9611).Pin and Collet Installation
1. Clean all collets and pins.2. Clean the bores for all collets and pins.3. Put 5P0960 Lubricant on the pin bores before assembly. Put 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound on all collet fastening bolts.4. Collets and pins must be centered axially. Installation Procedure for Steering Cylinder Collet Assemblies: 1. Install the pin, collets and bolt as shown in the illustration. The collet on one side must not extend farther than the other collet when the bolt is tight.2. Tighten bolt (1) to a torque of 870 110 N m (640 80 lb ft). After the bolt is tight, hit the collet on each side with a heavy hammer until the torque on the bolt is less than 475 N m (350 lb ft).3. Tighten the bolt again to a torque of 870 110 N m (640 80 lb ft). Hit each collet again until the torque for the bolt is less than 675 N m (500 lb ft).4. Tighten the bolt to a final torque of 870 110 N m (640 80 lb ft).5. Install nut (2) and tighten to a torque of 500 65 N m (370 48 lb ft). 50 service hours after any pin and collet was installed, loosen the nut and tighten the bolt in each collet assembly to 870 110 N m (640 80 lb ft). Retighten the nut to a torque of 500 65 N m (370 48 lb ft).
