Table 1
Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check the Battery Voltage with the Battery Isolated
A. Turn the battery isolator switch to the OFF position.
B. Use a suitable battery load tester to check the battery voltage at the batteries.
Note: The battery voltage should be at least 11V for a 12V system or 22 V for a 24 V system.
At least 11V for a 12V system
At least 22 V for a 24 V system
Result: The battery voltage is within the expected range.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: The battery voltage is not within the expected range.
Repair: On a 24 V system, check the voltage of the individual batteries.
If a battery discharge tester is available, check the batteries with the battery discharge tester.
Replace the battery or batteries as necessary.
2. Check the Battery Voltage with the Engine Running
A.Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position
B. Start the engine. Allow the engine to run at idle.
C.Use a suitable battery load tester to check the battery voltage at the batteries.
Note: The battery voltage should be at least 14V for a 12V system or 27 V for a 24 V system.
At least 14V for a 12V system
At least 27 V for a 24 V system
Result: The battery voltage is within the expected range.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result:The battery voltage is not within the expected range.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Check the Battery Voltage After the Engine has been Idling for 10 Minutes
A. Allow the engine to idle for 10 minutes.
B. Use a suitable battery load tester to check the battery voltage at the batteries.
Note: The battery voltage should be at least 14V for a 12V system or 27 V for a 24 V system.
At least 14V for a 12V system
At least 27 V for a 24 V system
Result: The battery voltage is within the expected range.
