Reference: Service Magazine, SEPD0575, 23 April 2001, "A New Locknut is Used on the Clutch Shafts"Description of Change: A new locknut is used on the shafts for the direction clutches. The former locknut could damage the threads on the shaft. The damage happened when the former locknut was removed from the shaft. The new locknut will not damage the threads.Adaptable To: The new 216-1637 Locknut is a direct replacement for the 164-9618 Locknut. The 216-1637 Locknut is effective with the following transmissions:

16H (S/N: 5MX1341-UP; DWH637-UP)Note: Use 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the face and on the threads of the locknut. Install the 6P-1736 Washer with the new locknut. The correct torque for the new locknut is 340 27 N m (250 20 lb ft). After the locknut is torqued, the locknut must be staked to the shaft. Use a hammer and a suitable punch in order to peen a portion of the collar of the locknut into the key slot on the shaft.
