CHECK RETENTION OF DRAFT ARM PINS 615 Scrapers, 6204, 6221, PI1028 U-67 AU-58 C-61.1 safety Problem The pins that fasten the draft arms to the scraper bowl on 615 Scrapers have a retainer and three bolts in the end of the pin. It is possible for these bolts to loosen and eventually allow the pin to work out of the scraper bore. If this happens, the draft arm separates from the bowl, which could result in loss of machine control. Affected Scrapers And Parts Needed The 615 Scrapers shipped with the following 615 Tractors are included in this Program: 615 Tractor S/N: 46Z834-46Z922, 924, 926-933, 935-937, 939, 941-945, 947-1032, 1034 Parts needed: 6-1A1460 Bolts 2T1777 Retainer (as needed) Action Requested Dealers are to check for loose draft arm pins on all the scrapers shipped with the listed tractors. Use the following procedure: 1. Remove the three bolts and retainer from the ends of both draft arm pins. See Illustration. 2. Remove any foreign material from the retainer seat inside the scraper bowl counterbore, and/or from the end of the pin. 3. Place a depth micrometer across the bowl counterbore and measure distance (A) to the end of the pin. See Illustration. (SEE ILLUSTRATION) 4a. If distance (A) is 2.54 mm (0.100") or more, reinstall the same retainer with new 1A1460 Bolts and reuse the same washers. OR 4b. If distance (A) is 2.51 mm (0.099") or less, use a new 2T1777 Retainer and install it with the counterbore toward the pin. (This provides a larger gap between the retainer and end of the pin as though shims were used around the end of the pin.) Install new 1A1460 Bolts and reuse the same washers. 5. Tighten the retainer bolts to 135 +/- 15 N.m (100 +/- 10 lb ft). 6. Use a large sledge hammer (about 7-9 kg or 16-20 lb) and hit the head end of the pin. Always wear eye protection. 7. Retighten all three bolts on both pins to same torque. 8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until bolts remain tight and cannot be turned with the specified torque. 9. Check the pin-to-scraper bore for proper taper fit. To do this, remove the retainer and see if the end of the pin extends beyond the hole in the scraper bowl. The allowable protrusion is 1.02 mm (0.040") less than the depth of the counterbore in the 2T1777 Retainer. (Measure the counterbore in this retainer - it can vary slightly from one retainer to another). If
