Information:
Water Separator
Replace Element
The water separator functions as the primary fuel filter. A large amount of water in the fuel can cause the engine to misfire or run rough and may cause a fuel injector to fail. If the fuel has been contaminated with a large amount of water, the element should be replaced before the 1200 hour interval.Replace the element any time the water separator becomes so contaminated that the water level can not be seen through the transparent cover.
Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Drain the fuel from the water separator into a container before removing the water separator retaining clamp.
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.
1. Close the fuel supply valve.2. Clean the water separator and clean the components around the water separator.
Clamp extended tab (1), clamp slotted tab (2), vent valve (3), drain valve (4), element (5), and base sealing surface (6).3. Open vent valve (3). Open drain valve (4). Catch the draining water in a suitable container and dispose of properly. Close valves (3) and (4).4. Press clamp extended tab (1) with the heel of a hand. Use fingers to lift clamp slotted tab (2) from the locking slot at the top of the base. Remove the clamp. Remove and discard element (5).5. Clean base sealing surface (6).
Do NOT fill the element with fuel before installation. The fuel would not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel wil cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
6. Align a new element in position on base sealing surface (6).7. Install the clamp. Engage the lower tab of the clamp in the slot at the bottom of the base. Press clamp extended tab (1) with the heel of a hand and fit the upper tab of the clamp into the locking slot at the top of the base.8. Open the fuel supply valve. Prime the fuel system. Refer to the Priming the Fuel System topic in the Every Three Months section in this manual.
The water separator is under suction during normal engine operation. Ensure that vent valve and the drain valve are tightened securely to prevent air from entering the fuel system.
9. Start the engine and check for leaks.PCV Valves
Clean/Check
Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve.1. Clean the outside and surrounding area of the PCV valves. Check the condition of the PCV hose. Inspect the hose for deterioration and damage. Replace the hose if necessary. 2. Remove the screws and washers that hold cover (1) in place.3. Remove cover (1) and the spring.4. Remove the diaphragm assembly, inner sleeve (2) and gasket (3) from housing (4).5. Disassemble the diaphragm assembly.6. Clean and inspect all parts. Replace any part that is worn or damaged. Always install a new gasket and diaphragm when the PCV valve is disassembled.7. Assemble the diaphragm assembly using a new diaphragm (6).8. To prevent diaphragm (6) from distorting and tearing during assembly, coat both of the diaphragm flange
