Reverse jump-start or battery connection.
High Voltage jump-start (overvoltage).
Load Dump from loose battery or junction block.
Loss of Ground connection.
Battery + to Ground short (wiring chafe, accidental short, component short circuit).To protect the alternators against these common causes:
Follow OMM procedure for jump starting an engine if the battery is flat.
Make sure that all connections are tight and wired to the correct terminals.
Check all associated wiring for damage or potential shorting to ground.
