(32)Steering Hydraulic System
Use caution when draining oil or changing filters. Hot oil or components can cause burns if they contact skin.
The machine must be level, the parking brake set, the hydraulic oil warm and the engine stopped. 1. Remove the filter cover. 2. Remove and discard the used filter elements. 3. Remove the screen. Wash it in clean nonflammable solvent. 4. Clean the cover and inspect the cover seal. If the seal is damaged, use a new seal.5. Install the clean screen and filter element.6. Install the cover. Tighten the cover bolts to 43 4 lb. ft. (59 5 N m).7. Start the engine, and operate the machine for a few minutes. Check for leaks. 8. When the hydraulic oil is warm, check the oil level. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark in the sight gauge. 9. Add oil to the tank, if necessary. Any time the steering filter light is on continuously, when the oil is warm, and the engine is operating between 1200-2200 RPM, change the filter element.(33)Engine Crankcase Breather
1. Stop the engine. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the hose from the breather. 2. Loosen the bolt in the top of the cover, and remove the cover.3. Inspect the cover seal. Use a new seal if the used one is damaged. 4. Remove the breather element. Wash it in clean nonflammable solvent.5. Install the clean breather element and cover.6. Reconnect the hose to the breather cover.7. Tighten the hose clamps.(34)Cooling System
At Operating Temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check coolant level ONLY when engine is stopped and radiator cap is cool enough to touch with your hand.Remove filler cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling System Conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Machine level, bed lowered, engine stopped and the parking brake applied. FIRST 500 SERVICE HOURS OR 3 MONTHS on a new or reconditioned engine: Add enough Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent, so that the cooling system will have a 3% concentration of conditioner. Add 1 qt. (1 liter) of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner for each 8 gallons (30 liters) of coolant used. EVERY 500 SERVICE HOURS OR 3 MONTHS thereafter: Add 1 pt. (.50 liters) of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner for each 8 gallons (30 liters) of coolant used. This will maintain the required 3% concentration of conditioner.
Do not use Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner with Dowtherm 209 FULL-FILL coolant.
1. Loosen the radiator caps slowly to relieve pressure. Remove the caps.It may be necessary to drain enough coolant to allow for the addition of cooling system conditioner.2. Add Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner. See above for amount of conditioner to add.3. Inspect the radiator cap gasket. Replace it if it is damaged.4. Install the radiator cap.(35)Fuel Tank Cap And Screen
