Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Ensure that all of the oil passages in the turbocharger cartridge housing are clean and free of dirt and foreign material.
Put clean engine oil on all parts of the cartridge assembly.
Install washer (23) and bearing (22) in cartridge housing (25). Ensure that the identification mark on bearing (2) is positioned upward.
Install snap rings (21) and (24) in cartridge housing (25) with Tooling (E).

Install top bearing (20) and the washer in the cartridge housing. Ensure that the identification marks are positioned upward.
Install the O-ring seal and thrust bearing (19) in the cartridge housing.

Install collar (18) on the opposite side of back plate assembly (17).
Install the seal ring in spacer (15). Install the spacer (15) in back plate assembly (17). Install back plate assembly (17) to the cartridge housing.
Position locks (16) and install bolts (14). Tighten bolts (14) and bend the tabs on locks (16).

Install turbine shaft (11) in Tooling (B). Install seal ring (12) and shroud (13) on turbine shaft (13).

Install washer (10) and bearing (9) with the identification marks upward. up. Install thrust washer (8) with the three lubrication grooves upward. Also install O-ring seal (7) in the cartridge housing.

Ensure that the seal ring on turbine shaft (6) is fitted correctly in the cartridge housing.
Install the locks and the bolts that hold the back plate assembly in position. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 10.2 1.1 N m (90 10 lb in).
Use the following procedure to install the impeller on the shaft.
Put the impeller on the shaft.
Put a small amount of Tooling (H) on the threads and impeller face that will be under the nut. Note: Do not bend or add stress to the shaft when the nut is loosened or tightened.
Tighten the nut to a torque of 14.1 to 17.0 N m (125 to 150 lb in).
Loosen the nut on the shaft.
Tighten the nut to 3.5 N m (31 lb in).
Tighten the nut for an additional 120 degrees.

Position the cartridge housing in a vise. Check the shaft end play with Tool (F). The end play must be 0.08 to 0.25 mm (0.003 to 0.010 inch). If the shaft end play is not the correct dimension, the inside parts of the center housing must be checked.

Position cartridge assembly (3) in turbine housing (4). Install clamp assembly (5).

Install the turbine housing on Tooling (A). Install the cartridge assembly in position in the turbine housing. Ensure that the markings on the housings are in alignment with each other. Put Tooling (I) on the threads of the clamp (2) which holds the cartridge assembly to the compressor housing (1). Install the clamp (2) and tighten the bolt to a torque of 14 2 N m (10 2 lb ft). Install the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Install".
