PC to UPS/SMS or MMU Graphics Master Connection
The PC to UPS/SMS or MMU Graphics Master connection is used to monitor the messages and telemetry for the overall UPS/SMS or MMU, including the Flywheel Cabinets, and retrieve log files from both the UPS/SMS, MMU and the Flywheel Cabinets. The PC to UPS/SMS or MMU Graphics Master connection is also the main port where firmware is installed to the whole UPS/SMS or MMU (paralleled systems).The firmware updates for the UPS/SMS or MMU and Flywheel Cabinets are done from this location.

(1) Serial Port Location (Customer Connections Tray)

RS-232 Laptop interface for GM Access (2) Port A (RS232)The Graphics Master connection is located in the Customer Connections Tray located on the top of the Controls cabinet.The following instructions explain how to connect a PC serially to your UPS/SMS or MMU Graphics Master.
Open the cover to the Customer Connections Tray.
Connect a PC via a serial cable to the RS-232 Port that is indicated in Illustration 2.Note: The serial cable is a straight through DB9 male to DB9 female.
Turn on the PC.
Run the UPSView software.
Select "PC Settings" in the Menu Bar.

"Connection Settings"
Click Settings in the "PC Settings" menu. The UPSView "Connection Settings" window will open.
Ensure the "Direct Connect (serial)" radio button is selected.
Select the "Serial/Modem Port Number" that is appropriate for the PC.
Select the "Serial/Modem Baud Rate" that is desired.The default is 38400.
Ensure that the "Detailed (MMU) Telemetry" radio button is selected.
Select "Connect".The PC is now connected to the UPS/SMS or MMU. Text and telemetry are displayed via UPS View.Note: If text and telemetry are not displayed, check the "Serial/Modem Port Number" and the "Direct Connect (serial)" radio button for the proper settings. Additionally, check the cable length and type of serial cable used.
Select "Log On" in the Menu Bar when connection is established. The "Enter User Name / Password" window opens.
Enter a "User Name".
Enter a "Password".
Select "OK".After the "User Name" and "Password" have been accepted by the UPS/SMS or MMU, the Menu Bar includes "Op. Params", "Commands", "Calibrate", and "Log Off".Note: Before proceeding, wait for the new menu items to appear.PC To Service Port In The Controls Cabinet
The PC to Service Port in the Controls cabinet connection is used to monitor telemetry and messages from just the UPS/SMS or MMU, as well as retrieve log files from both the UPS/SMS or MMU. The PC to Service Port in the Controls cabinet connection does not access the information in the Flywheel Cabinets.
