Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Raise temperature of bearing (9) .
Install bearing (9) onto the fan shaft.
Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 for bearing (8) .

Install elbow (6) .Note: Caution must be used to ensure that the mating surface of the housing for the lip seal are clean and free of burrs.
Use Tooling (C) and a suitable press to install seal (7) .

Use Tooling (B) to install snap ring (5) .

Use a suitable press to install fan shaft (4) , bearing (8) , and bearing (9) into the housing.

Install shims (2) .

Use Tooling (A) to install snap ring (1) .

Measure the end play of fan shaft (4) . Add or subtract shims (2) in order to maintain the correct axial end play of 0.127 mm (0.005 inch). If necessary, repeat Steps 8 and 9.End By: Install the bearing block (fan drive). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bearing Block (Fan Drive) - Install".
