Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (B) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.

Open drain valves (1) and (2) on filter base (3) .
Use Tooling (A) to remove filter (4) .

Remove drain hoses (5) and (6) .
Disconnect hose assemblies (7) and (8). Plug and cap hose assemblies (7) and (8) with Tooling (B) .

Remove bolts (9). Remove filter base (3) .Installation Procedure

Install filter base (3). Install bolts (9).

Remove Tooling (B) from hose assemblies (7) and (8). Connect hose assemblies (7) and (8) .
Install drain hoses (5) and (6) .

Use Tooling (A) to install filter (4) .
Close drain valves (1) and (2) on filter base (3) .
