The metering pump is located on the front of the cab.Park the machine on a level surface and move the parking brake control to the ENGAGED position. Shut off the engine.Note: If one of the components inside the metering pump is faulty, an excessive amount of oil may be directed to the tank by the metering pump. This may result in a slow steering response. If one of these components is damaged, the metering pump must be replaced. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR9564, "Metering Pump (Steering) - Remove" and Disassembly and Assembly, RENR9564, "Metering Pump (Steering) - Install".The Steering Wheel is Difficult to Turn
This test will determine whether the metering pump is binding or the steering column is binding.

Remove the bolt from the steering column. This will allow the steering column to rotate independently of the metering pump.
Rotate the steering wheel with the steering column at different angles. If the steering column is binding, repair the part or replace the part which is binding.
If the steering column is not binding, there may be a problem with the metering pump. If the metering pump is damaged, replace the metering pump.Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR9564, "Metering Pump (Steering) - Remove" and Disassembly and Assembly, RENR9564, "Metering Pump (Steering) - Install".Test the Steering Wheel For Centering
Rotate the steering wheel slightly in each direction. The steering wheel should return to the original position when the steering wheel is released.
If the steering wheel does not return to the original position there may be a problem with the centering spring or with the rotary spool inside the metering pump.Replace the metering pump if any of the internal components of the metering pump are damaged. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR9564, "Metering Pump (Steering) - Remove" and Disassembly and Assembly, RENR9564, "Metering Pump (Steering) - Install".
