SCHEMATIC OF STEERING SYSTEM
1. Steering filter. 2. Adapter. 3. Steering control valve. 4. Left steering cylinder. 5. Flow control and relief valve. 6. Check valve (optional for emergency steering). 7. Right steering cylinder. 8. Steering pump. 9. Oil pump (optional for emergency steering) that is driven by an electric motor. 10. Actuator.The steering system is mechanically controlled by the movement of the steering wheel and the follow-up linkage. The actual steering is completely hydraulic and the machine cannot be steered with the engine stopped.An emergency steering option is available that provides limited steering when the engine is not operating.

STEERING CONTROL VALVE LOCATION
3. Steering control valve.The steering pump (8) is a single-section, gear type pump. The steering pump, transmission pump and the hoist pump are mounted on a gear housing which is driven by the diesel engine. The pump (8) draws oil from the hydraulic tank and forces the oil through the flow control and relief valve (5). The flow control valve (5) directs some of the oil back through the filter (1) and into the tank. Approximately 20 U.S. gal/min (75.7 lit/min) of the pump oil is directed to steering valve (3) where the flow is divided.When the steering wheel is stationary, oil flows around the valve spool and maintains oil pressure in both ends of the steering cylinders.
