Remove bolts (12) and washers (13). Remove retainers (3) .

(B) Packing
Inspect packing (B). Clean the area around the packing. Inspect the packing and determine if the packing needs to be replaced. Signs for replacement of the packing would be the following conditions: damaged packing, debris under the packing and oil leakage through the packing. Leakage through the packing would indicate leakage of the Duo-cone seal group in the final drive. Refer to the service manual in order to replace the Duo-cone seal group. Replace the Packing

(B) Packing
Remove the old packing (B) from the seal guard. Clean the seal guard in order to prepare for installation of the new packing.Note: Each final drive seal guard requires two seals. The sections of packing are installed on top of each other in the groove of the seal guard.

(1) Inner packing (C) Diameter (D) Joint in the inner packing
Install inner packing (1). Place a thin film of lubricant on diameter (C). Stretch the packing during installation. Smooth the packing and keep the packing uniform. Minimize the joint (D) at the ends of the inner packing (1) .

Install the outer packing (2). Offset the joint in the inner packing (D) and the outer packing (E) by 180 degrees (F) . Stretch the packing during installation. Smooth the packing and keep the packing uniform. Minimize the joint (E) at the ends of the outer packing (2) .

Assemble retainers (3) to seal guard (11) with sixteen washers (4) and sixteen bolts (5). The clearance at area (D) should be 2 mm (0.079 inch).
Replace the packing on the other final drive, if necessary.
