The color of backup rings (9) is brown. The color of backup rings (10) is black.
Note: Use Tooling (A) to fill the seal grooves in the piston. The grease will displace air when the O-ring seals and the backup rings are installed.
Install O-ring seals (8), backup rings (9) and backup rings (10) on piston (4). Do not interchange the position of the backup rings and the O-ring seals.
Illustration 3 g02126272Note: Damage may occur to the backup rings and the O-rings seals. Insure proper installation making sure that the piston is kept square with the cylinder during installation.
Apply a small amount of Tooling (A) on the sliding surface of piston (4). Install piston (4) in cylinder (3). If necessary, use a soft faced hammer to install the piston in the cylinder.
Center piston (4) in cylinder (3). Apply a small amount of Tooling (A) on the inside diameter of lip seal (7). Install lip seal (7) in cylinder (3). Install lip seal (7) even with the outside surface of cylinder (3). Do not install lip seal (7) more than 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) below the outside surface of cylinder (3).
Install fill valve (6). Tighten fill valve (6) to a torque of 34 5 N m (254 4 lb ft).
Install relief valve (5). Do not tighten the relief valve.
Install plate assembly (2) and bolts (1). Tack weld bolts (1) in two places. The welds should be approximately 5.0 mm (0.20 inch) fillet welds.
Attach a grease gun to fill valve (6). Pump Tooling (A) into fill valve (6) to remove any air from cylinder (3). Make sure that grease is expelled from the vent hole for relief valve (5). Tighten relief valve (5) to a torque of 34 5 N m (25 5 lb ft).
Add approximately 5 cc (0.3 in3) of Tooling (A) through fill valve (6). Apply a force to piston (4) and open fill valve (6) in order to purge all the air from the hydraulic track adjuster. Tighten fill valve (6) to a torque of 34 5 N m (254 4 lb ft). End By:
