SAFETY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR INSTALLING NEW BRAKE CONTROL SOFTWARE ON CERTAIN 793F, 793F XQ, 795F AC, AND 797F OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The brake control software needs to be updated on the products listed below. A condition exists in which the brake system on 793F, 795F AC, and 797F Off-Highway Trucks may fail to warn the operator if brake pressure is lost. Specifically, when there is a fault of the brake accumulator pressure sensor(s), the machine no longer has an indication as to the status of the brake pressure. When this occurs, the operator will receive a Level 2 message stating there is a fault with the pressure sensor(s). However, in the case of a second system failure, there is no means to warn the operator of the potential loss of brake pressure, since the actual brake pressure is not known. A fault of the brake accumulator pressure sensor(s), may cause a loss of service brakes and may, in conjunction with other factors and circumstances, create a risk of personal injury or death.
In the case of service brake pressure loss, the secondary braking system is still functional for the operator. In the case of secondary brake pressure loss, the brakes will be spring applied. It is important that operators understand the operation of both the service and secondary braking systems as described in the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
Effective with software part number 388-0765, any fault of either the service or secondary brake accumulator pressure sensor(s) will be elevated to a level 3 warning, instructing the operator to "Shutdown Safely" until repairs can be made.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
