(1) Oil filter (brake cooling and hoist)
(2) Bypass switch (brake cooling oil filter) Oil filter (1) for the hoist and the brake cooling is located inside the left frame rail and behind brake oil coolers. Bypass switch (2) is located on the filter housing. The gear pump for the hoist and for brake cooling sends oil to the control valve for the hoist and for the brake cooling. When the hoist is not being used, oil will flow through the hoist control valve and through oil filter (1) for the hoist and brake cooling. Oil will continue to flow through the front and rear brake oil coolers, to the front and rear brakes.Bypass switch (2) informs the Brake ECM if the filter is restricted.

(6) Outlet Oil flows through inlet passage (3). The oil fills the space between the inside of filter cover (4) and element assembly (5). During normal operation, the oil goes through element assembly (5) to outlet passage (6). The oil then exits through the outlet line. The oil will then flow to the front brake. The element assembly (5) stops any debris that is in the oil.If element assembly (5) becomes full of debris, the restriction to the flow of oil causes a pressure increase inside oil filter (1). The pressure increase activates bypass switch (2) and an alarm will be registered in the cab. The oil will continue to flow past the open bypass valve to the remainder of the hydraulic system.
If the oil does not go through the element assembly (5), the debris that is in the oil may cause damage to other components in the hydraulic system.
Correct maintenance must be used in order to be certain that the element assembly (5) does not become full of debris. If the element assembly (5) is full of debris, the flow of clean oil to the hydraulic system will be stopped.
