Personal injury or death can result from a fire.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing them. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.

Open the access panel on the right side of the machine. The secondary fuel filter is on the right side of the machine.
Open or remove the right side engine panel.
Open the drain valve on the bottom of the filter canister. Allow the fuel to drain into a suitable container.
Use a strap type wrench to remove the filter housing or remove the filter housing with the hex nut on the bottom of the housing.
Remove the used filter element by pulling the element away from the canister. Dispose of the used filter element properly.
Clean the inside of the canister with a clean, nonflammable solvent.
Insert new filter element into the canister.
Clean the filter mounting base. Ensure that the O-ring sealing surface is free of debris.
Insert a new filter element into the canister.
Lubricate the seal of the new filter with clean diesel fuel. Install the canister hand tight until the seal of the fuel filter contacts the base.
Using a wrench and the hex nut on the bottom of the canister, tighten the filter according to instructions that are printed on the filter. For non-Cat filters, use the instructions that are provided with the filter.
Prime the fuel system.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for the correct procedure.
Reinstall the right side engine panel and close the access door.
