It not necessary to remove the rear tires and rims to remove the rear axle shafts. 1. Position the final drive as shown with plug (2) "down" as shown.2. Drain the oil from the final drive by removing plug (2) from cover (1). Check the condition of the O-ring seal on plug (2). Use a new part for replacement if the O-ring seal is worn or damaged. 3. Remove two bolts (3) from cover (1) and install two guide bolts as shown.4. Removing all the remaining bolts (3) from cover (1). 5. Use two bolts installed into the forcing screw holes of cover (1) to free cover (1) from the final drive assembly. Cover (1) will be supported by the two guide bolts.6. Move cover (1) far enough onto the guide bolts to install tooling (A). Attach a hoist to cover (1) and tooling (A).7. Remove cover (1) from the final drive assembly and guide bolts. Cover (1) weighs 75 kg (165 lb).
Typical Example Do the following to remove axle shaft (4) from the final drive assembly.a. Use tool (B) to pull axle shaft part way out of the final drive assembly as shown.b. Attach a hoist and strap to axle shaft (4). Remove axle shaft (4). The axle shaft weighs 290kg (645 lb). The following steps are for installing the axle shaft into the final drive assembly. 8. Check the condition of O-ring seal (5) on the final drive assembly. Use a new part for replacement if O-ring seal (5) is worn or damaged.9. Attach a hoist and strap to axle shaft (4). Install axle shaft (4) as far into the final drive assembly as the strap will allow.10. Use tool (B) to install axle shaft (4) the remainder of the way into the final drive assembly. 11. Check the condition of thrust washer (6) and plate (7) on the inside of cover (1). If plate (7) or washer (6) are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.12. Use a hoist attached to tooling (b) to install cover (1) onto the two guide bolts installed into the final drive housing. Install the washers and thirteen bolts (3).13. Remove the two guide bolts and install the remaining washers and two bolts (3). Evenly tighten all bolts (3).14. Fill the final drive with oil to the correct level and install plug (2).
