Check the seals and bearings in the pin bores of the bucket cylinder. If any of these components are worn or damaged use new parts for replacement. Refer to the topic "Disassemble & Assemble Bucket Cylinder" in this module.
10. Make sure the pin bores in the stick, the linkage assembly, and bucket cylinder are clean and free of dirt prior to installation of the bucket cylinder.11. Fasten two lifting slings and a hoist to bucket cylinder (1). Put the head end of the bucket cylinder in position in the stick. Make sure the pin bores of the stick and the bucket cylinder are in alignment.12. Apply 5P-0960 Multipurpose Greaseon pin assembly (5). Temporarily install pin assembly (5), the washers and pin assembly retaining bolt (6) at the head end of the bucket cylinder. Do notremove the hoist from the bucket cylinder at this time.13. Put a wood block under rod end of bucket cylinder (1). Lower the bucket cylinder on the wood block. Remove the lifting sling from the head end of the bucket cylinder. Reposition the lifting sling and the hoist on the rod end of the bucket cylinder housing. Raise the bucket cylinder, and remove the wood block.14. Check the condition of the O-ring seals in the ends of hose assemblies (4) prior to installation. If the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement. Connect the two hose assemblies to the bucket cylinder.15. Lower the bucket cylinder rod end in the linkage assembly. Align the pin bore of the rod end of bucket cylinder with the pin bores of the linkage assembly. It may be necessary to start the machine, and carefully move the control lever of the bucket cylinder to align the pin bores of the components.16. Apply 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease on pin assembly (2). Temporarily install pin assembly (2), the washers and pin assembly retaining bolt (3). Do not remove the hoist from the bucket cylinder at this time.17. Slide the bucket cylinder to one side until it makes contact with the stick and the bucket linkage. Measure the total clearance between the bucket cylinder and the stick at the pin bore. Measure the total clearance between the bucket cylinder and the linkage assembly at the pin bore. The total clearance for each measurement must not exceed 1.6 mm (.06 in) maximum. If the total clearance is less than 1.6 mm (.06 in), the addition of shims between the bucket cylinder and the stick and/or the bucket cylinder and the linkage assembly will not be required. If the total clearance is more than 1.6 mm (.06 in), add the correct thickness of shims to obtain the necessary clearance.
Prior to removing pin assemblies for installation of shims make sure the bucket cylinder is supported to prevent movement.
18. If it has been determined that shims need to be installed between the bucket cylinder and the stick and/or between the bucket cylinder and the linkage assembly, support the bucket cylinder to prevent movement. Remove pin assembly
