Transmission Direction and Speed Control Lever SchematicThe power train electronic control module (ECM) detects the faults that occur in the transmission direction and speed control lever outputs and other related harness circuits. Note: Before troubleshooting one of these faults, move the transmission direction and speed control lever through all positions. Ensure that the fault which is being analyzed is on hold.
Check the ground circuit for the transmission direction and speed control lever.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the eight pin transmission direction and speed control lever connector and the six pin transmission direction and speed control lever connector.
At the machine harness connectors for the transmission direction and speed control lever, check for continuity from ground to contact 2 of the six pin connector.Expected Result: There is continuity from ground to contact.Results:
YES - There is continuity. The ground circuit for the transmission direction and speed control lever is correct. Proceed to Step 2.
NO - There is NO continuity. The harness of the ground circuit for the transmission direction and speed control lever has a fault. Repair the harness or replace the harness. STOP.
Check the power circuits for the transmission direction and speed control lever.
Disconnect the eight pin transmission direction and speed control lever connector and the six pin transmission direction and speed control lever connector.
At the machine harness connector for the transmission direction and speed control lever, check for the battery voltage between contact 2 (ground) and contact 1 of the six pin connector.Expected Result: Battery voltage is present.Results:
YES - Battery voltage is present. The power circuits for the transmission direction and speed control lever are correct. Proceed to Step 3.
NO - Battery voltage is NOT present. The harness for the power circuit or the neutralizer switch is not correct. Repair the harness and/or the switch. If necessary, replace the harness and/or the switch. STOP.
Check the transmission direction and speed control lever.
Refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Transmission Control (Shift Lever) - Test" in order to check the transmission direction and speed control lever switches in neutral and each of the direction and speed positions. Use the transmission direction and speed control lever connectors for the tests.Expected Result: The transmission direction and speed control lever is correct.Results:
YES - Transmission direction and speed control lever is correct. There is a harness problem or a harness connector problem. Proceed to Step 4.
NO - Transmission direction and speed control lever is NOT correct. There is a fault in the transmission direction and speed control lever. Replace the transmission direction and speed control lever. STOP.
Check the harness from the transmission direction and speed control lever to the power train ECM.
Refer to the service manual module schematic of the electrical system in order to check for shorts of the harness circuits of the transmission direction and speed control lever. Refer to the service manual module schematic of the electrical system in order to check for continuity of the harness circuits of the transmission direction and speed control
