Install piston (23) in the bore.

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Install pressure pins (22), retaining disc (21), and spring (20) into barrel (18).
Install retaining ring (19) on top of spring (21). Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to compress spring (20). Compress until retaining ring (19) can be installed in the groove in barrel (18).

Install bearing (15) on barrel (18) and install retaining plate (17) with pistons (16) in barrel (18).

Do not install shim (13) at this time. Install bearing cone (12) onto shaft (9). Assemble the pump without shim (13) in order to check the preload of bearing cone (12).

Install bearing cup (8) (not shown) into port block (3). Install the port block (3) onto housing (6). Install bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to the torque of 37 N m (27 lb ft).

Install Tooling (B) onto the pump housing. Use the dial indicator to determine the end play of shaft (9). Be sure that you move shaft (9) completely in both directions. Use appropriate tools to move shaft (9).
The thickness of the shim should equal the end play measurement plus 0.0508 mm (0.00200 inch). For example, if the end play is 2.1590 mm (0.08500 inch) then the shim thickness should be 2.2098 mm (0.08700 inch).
Record the measurement. If necessary, grind the shim to the determined measurement.

Remove bolts (2), port block (3), and bearing cone (12) (not shown).

Wrap pistons (16) with string but do not tie the string. Hold the string tight and carefully install the rotating group in housing (6). The splines on shaft (9) must engage with splines in the bearing.

Install plug (14) and the O-ring seal. Tighten plug (14) to a torque of 190 +18 -0 N m (140 +13 -0 lb ft). Install shim (13).

Install bearing cone (12) on shaft (9). Install O-ring seal (10) to housing (6).
Install O-ring seal (7) and plate (11) to the port block (3).

Install port block (3) onto housing (6). Install bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to the torque of 37 N m (27 lb ft).
Position valve (4) on housing (6). Install bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 15 3 N m (133 27 lb in).

Install the hydraulic fan and brake piston pump.
