Introduction
Protective guards have been added to the above models to protect the stabilizer cylinder rods from falling debris. The above models were not equipped with the guards. They may be added to these machines by ordering the necessary parts and installing them according to this instruction.Necessary Parts
For each damaged 5W6447 Rod, order one 8U1869 Rod and half the quantity of each part (except 8U2725) from the following chart.The following chart lists the parts of the 8U2724 Guard Group which includes enough parts to install guards on two 5W6447 Rods. If it is desired to add the guards to only one cylinder rod, order half the quantity of each part. Installing the Guards
1. Raise one end of the excavator up on the stabilizers to the fully raised position.
(A) No weld area across ends of both plates (two places).2. Assemble 8U2725 Plate (5) to 8U1904 Guard (1) with 8U1906 Pin (3), two 6V8178 Washers (2), and two 8U1905 Cotter Pins (4).3. Assemble the other 8U2725 Plate (5) to 8U1904 Guard (1) with 8U1906 Pin (3), two 6V8178 Washers (2), and two 8U1905 Cotter Pins (4).4. Position the assemblies on top of the cylinders and locate each 8U2725 Plate on the top center of the cylinder rod eye, according to the dimensions given.5. Cover the cylinder rods to protect them from weld splatter and tack weld the 8U2725 Plates in place.
Top View6. Retract the stabilizers to be sure the full length of the guards clears the frame at points (B).7. If necessary, grind the frame at points (B) to allow clearance for the guards.8. Weld both sides of each plate (5) with a 3 mm (.12") fillet weld.Repeat Steps one thru eight for the other end of the machine.
