FILM-IDENTIFICATION 5088949 - Caterpillar

1. Start the machine and move it forward or to the rear until drain plug (1) is in the position as shown.2. Drain the oil from the final drive. 3. Remove the nuts (2), then remove cover assembly (3) from the carrier. 4. Remove O-ring seal (4) from the cover assembly. Remove four bolts (6) then remove plate (5) from the cover. 5. Install a 1/2"-13 NC forged eyebolt (7) in the end of the drive axle. Pull axle out of carrier housing approximately 22 in. (55.9 cm). 6. Fasten straps and a hoist to the drive axle (8). Remove drive axle from the housing. Weight of the housing is 85 lb. (39 kg). If the axle can not be removed, move the machine a small amount to the front or rear until the axle can be pulled from the final drive. 7. Remove ring (10), gear (11) and spacer (9) from the axle.Install Drive Axles (825C, 826C)
1. Make sure the axles are clean and free of dirt or foreign material. 2. Fasten straps and a hoist to the drive axle (1). Put drive axle in position in the final drive. Install spacer on drive axle. 3. Install gear (2) half way on the axle.4. Put a piece of pipe (3) which has a 2 in. (5.1 cm) outside diameter and is 24 in. (61.0 cm) long in the end of gear (2) as shown. Push down on the pipe and slide the drive axle into position. 5. Push gear (2) all the way on the axle. Install ring (4) on the axle. 6. Install plate (7) with the four bolts (5) that hold it.7. Put clean oil on O-ring seal (6), then install the O-ring seal on the cover. 8. Install cover (8) on the final drive carrier with the nuts that hold it.9. Fill the final drives with oil to the correct level. See LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE.
