The new sleeve bearing and thrust washer decrease the contact stress in the final drive planetary shafts. The new sleeve bearings and washers can be used without replacing any other final drive components.Adaptable To: The 254-1125 Sleeve Bearing and the 239-4259 Thrust Washer are adaptable to first production of the machines that are listed above. The 254-1125 Sleeve Bearing and 239-4259 Thrust Washer can replace 6Y-9885 Roller Bearing, 8X-4552 Washer, and 8K-0067 Spacer .Clean the bores and inspect the bores of the planetary gears before you install new bearings. Clean the planetary shafts and inspect the planetary shafts before you install new bearings. Replace any planetary gears and planetary shafts if there is pitting, spalling, or deep scratches. Power Train Repair Kits are offered for servicing the above listed machines. Power Train Repair Kits contain the bearings and the seals that are needed in order to overhaul one final drive. The 256-6800 Power Train Repair Kit is for the 988F (S/N: 8YG1-UP) and the 834B (S/N: 92Z559-UP). The 256-6801 Power Train Repair Kit is for 988F (S/N: 2ZR1-UP), 834B (S/N: 7BR1-UP) and 836 (S/N: 7FR1-UP). The 256-6800 Power Train Repair Kit will also fit 988B (S/N: 50W1-UP), (S/N: 62Y1-UP), 834B (S/N: 92Z1-558), and the 836 (S/N: 3RL1-UP). Steel roller bearings, spacers, and washers are still available for parts service. Steel roller bearings, spacers, and washers are also included in 137-5638 Bearing Kit for 988B (S/N: 50W1-UP), (S/N: 62Y1-UP), 834B (S/N: 92Z1-558), and 836 (S/N: 3RL1-UP). Due to the high loading in some landfill applications, Caterpillar recommends servicing an 836 Landfill Compactor with the new sleeve bearings and thrust washers.Note: Do not mix roller bearings and sleeve bearings in the same final drive. Caterpillar recommends service of all four final drives at the same time in order to keep the bearing usage and the age of parts at the same level. At the minimum, service both final drives on an axle at the same time in order to keep bearing usage and the age of parts consistent. Caterpillar does not recommend having a final drive with roller bearings and a final drive with sleeve bearings in the same axle.Note:
