The Automatic Engine Speed Control (AESC) function will allow the Machine Control ECM to reduce the speed of the engine to low idle when no hydraulic system activity is detected. This aids in conserving fuel and reducing noise. When the AESC enable quick access button on the Monitor is pressed, the ECM will monitor the "machine working function" in order to determine if hydraulic activity is requested. The ECM will initiate the AESC function when the machine working function indicates that there has been no hydraulic activity within 1 to 10 seconds. This time period is programmable using the Monitor or Cat ET. The ECM will Monitor the activity of the following machine conditions in order to determine if hydraulic activity is present.
Machine swing (swing pump pressure).
Machine travel (pedal position sensor).
Joystick thumbwheel activity from either joystick (thumbwheel position sensors).
Implement activity (main pump pressure).
Left auxiliary pedal activity (position sensor)
Engine speed dial movement (Engine ECM).When the ECM has detected no hydraulic activity for the configured time period, the ECM will send a request for low idle directly to the Engine Control ECM over the J1939 (CAN) Data Link. If the ECM detects a change in any one of the conditions that are listed above, the ECM will disable the AESC function and the engine speed will return to the previously selected speed. The operator can request that the engine go to low idle mode when the AESC function has not been enabled on the Monitor. When the One Touch Low Idle Switch on the right hand joystick is pressed, the ECM will check for hydraulic load conditions before sending a request for low idle to the Engine ECM. If the conditions are correct, the Machine Control ECM will command the Engine ECM to activate the AESC function immediately with no delay. If an active diagnostic code is present for either of the Joystick Thumbwheels, the Foot Pedal Position Sensors or the Speed Dial Switch, the ECM will not enable the AESC function.
