Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses, and tubes to prevent fluid loss and to prevent contaminants from entering the system.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
1. Connect the steering frame lock link. See the topic "Separate & Connect Steering Frame Lock Link" in this module.2. Open the access doors behind the operators station. 3. Disconnect and plug two hydraulic hose assemblies (1) next to the right hand steering cylinder for access to the transmission oil pump. Installation of plug will help to prevent oil loss and keep dirt and debris out of the transmission oil. 4. Remove eight bolts (3) and the washers. Use Tooling (A) or a suitable jack to remove guard assembly (2). The weight of the guard assembly is 118 kg (260 lb). 5. Disconnect and plug two hydraulic hose assemblies (4) from transmission oil pump (5). 6. Remove eleven bolts (6) from transmission oil pump (5). Tip the pump slightly while lifting it out to clear the meshing gears inside the pump. Remove transmission oil pump (5). The following steps are for the installation of the transmission oil pump.7. Check the condition of the O-ring seals used in the hose assemblies that connect to the transmission oil pump. If the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.8. Install the transmission oil pump in the reverse order of removal.9. Check the oil level of transmission. Fill the transmission with oil to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct fluid and filling procedure.10. Separate the steering frame lock link. Refer to the topic "Steering Frame Lock Link, Separate & Connect" in this module.Disassemble Transmission Oil Pump
Start By:a. remove the transmission oil pump1. Be sure the outside of the transmission oil pump is thoroughly clean prior to disassembly. 2. Put an alignment mark across the manifold, body and cover of the transmission oil pump for assembly purposes.3. Loosen locknut (1). Do not remove the locknut. If necessary, use a suitable puller to loosen gear (3). Remove locknut (1), washer (2) and gear (3). 4. Remove woodruff key (4).5. Remove six bolts (5) with washers, and remove cover assembly (6). 6. Remove O-ring seal (7) and
