start by:a) remove alternator1. Make a setting of the fuel injection pump timing. See REMOVE FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR for timing procedure. Tools (A) and (B) will be needed to make a setting of the timing. 2. Remove eight nuts (1). Remove cover (2) and gasket from the timing gear cover. 3. Remove four bolts (3). Remove retainer (4).4. Remove automatic timing advance (5).Install Automatic Timing Advance
1. Put automatic timing advance (1) in position on the drive shaft for the fuel injection pump. 2. Install the retainer (2) and bolts that hold it. Tighten the bolts in the following sequence: a) Tighten the bolts to a torque of 25 lb.ft. (35 N m).b) Remove tool (A) from the fuel injection pump.c) Tighten the bolts to a torque of 50 lb.ft. (70 N m).d) Tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 5 lb.ft. (135 7 N m).
Do not tighten the bolts to a final torque with tool (A) in the fuel injection pump.
3. Install a new gasket on the timing gear cover. 4. Put cover (3) in position. Install the nuts that hold it.end by:a) install alternatorDisassemble Automatic Timing Advance
start by:a) remove automatic timing advance 1. Remove retainer ring (2). Remove gear (1) from flange. 2. Remove springs (3) and counterweights (4) from the flange.3. Remove slides from dowels on the flange.Assemble Automatic Timing Advance
1. Install slides (2) on the dowels of flange (3).2. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the slides and counterweights. Install the counterweights (1) on the flange. 3. Install springs (4).4. Install the gear on the flange assembly. Install retainer ring (5) that holds the gear to the flange assembly.end by:a) install automatic timing advance
