Information:
10. Use clean oil on seal (19). Install seal (19) with tooling (D).11. Use clean oil on seal (20). Install O-ring seal (20) on cage (17) as shown.
Typical Example.
Make sure cage (17) is kept even during installation to prevent damage to the seal.
12. Make sure shims (26) are in position on carrier (23). Put cage (17) in position on the carrier. Put Loctite® No.271 on the threads of bolts (25). Install bolts (25). Evenly tighten bolts (25) to a torque of 110 10 N m (80 7 lb ft). 13. Check the pinion depth according to the following lettered steps.a. Put tooling (C) in place on tooling (E). Adjust the dial indicator to zero on the top of the block.b. Set the block and indicator on the end of the pinion. c. Rotate the gauge around to the "saddle" for the differential as shown. The difference between the reading in the saddle (at the lowest point of the saddle) and the zero point on the indicator must be within 0.13 mm (.005"). If the indicator reading is not in tolerance, disassemble and repeat Steps 2 through 13c. Adjust the shim thickness in Step 2 by the difference between the zero point and the "saddle" reading. Shims (26) must be adjusted by the same amount to maintain the bearing preload. If large housing (13) has been replaced, it will be necessary to ream the holes in the flange of the large housing to match the holes in the bevel gear. Use the following procedure to ream the holes in the flange of the large housing:a. Fasten a hoist to the large housing, and put large housing (13) in position in bevel gear (16).b. Using the bevel gear as a guide, ream one hole to 20.268 .013 mm (.7980 .0005 in).c. Install a bolt, washer and nut in the hole that has been reamed.d. Use the same procedure to install a bolt approximately 180° from the first bolt.e. Ream the remaining holes to 20.268 .013 mm (.7980 .0005 in).f. Install the remaining bolts and nuts (15). Tighten the nuts to a torque of 440 40 N m (325 30 lb ft).14. If the bevel gear is to be replaced and the old large housing is to be reused, new holes must be drilled through the differential housing flange. See Special Instructions, Form No. SMHS7521-01 for the correct procedure. For 793B Truck the holes must be reamed to 20.268 .013 mm (.7980 .0005 in). New bolt holes can be drilled in a differential housing flange only once. If there is a bevel gear failure after the new holes have been made in the differential housing flange, replace the differential housing (flange half). 15. Put thrust washer (27) in position on the dowels in large housing (13) as shown.16. Put the output gear in position on the thrust washer.
